JCREMC Board approves slight rate increase in 2026

JCREMC’s member-elected Board of Directors recently approved an overall 3.47% rate increase effective April 1, 2026. All rate classes will be affected differently, and residential rates will see an increase of approximately 3.01%.
“Our goal is to maintain stable rates at the lowest possible cost,” JCREMC CEO John Sturm said. “Over the past decade, we have made several efficiency improvements and investments to help keep rates low. This rate adjustment is attributed to increased distribution and transmission delivery costs caused primarily by inflation impacting labor, materials and maintenance requirements.”
Even with this increase, JCREMC’s average residential rate will have risen 10.2% over the past 10 years, which is significantly lower than the 34% average increase experienced by other Indiana utilities over the same period according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
“I’m extremely proud of our staff and all they have done to keep our costs down and reliability up,” Sturm said. “Automating numerous business processes and recent investments in local solar generation and battery storage systems are a great example of the innovative ways we maintain stable rates while increasing reliability for our members.”
JCREMC recognizes the financial pressures many households face and remains committed to supporting its members. JCREMC offers energy advising, rebates, and various time-of-use rate structures which can help members lower their electricity bills.
