Spring weather to date has brought unusually warm temperatures to the area served by Johnson County REMC. Thus far, we have not seen this cause a significant increase in the need for electricity. Our peak demand during this warm period has been slightly below the 2011 winter peak demand and approximately 50% of the 2011 summer peak demand. We presently have enough capacity for our members, and expect to have enough capacity even if we experience high temperatures this summer. Keep in mind, though, that the cost of generating electricity is higher during summer peak periods. By lowering the summer demand we can all play a part in keeping rates as low as possible. Watch for future posts on the REMC website and Facebook page for ways to help control cost during peak periods.

Our hearts ache with the devastation caused by the recent tornados to our south. To assist with repairs to the electric utility infrastructure, Johnson County REMC has dispatched four of our linemen to aid in restoration of electric service to the people of southern Indiana. As our friends and neighbors clean up from the storms, you may wish to know how you can help. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) suggests the best way to help is to make a donation to a recognized disaster relief organization such as the American Red Cross. You can donate money at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). You can also make a $10 donation by texting the word REDCROSS to 90999.
